YouTube Monetization & AdSense FAQ
CLICK TO EXPANDWelcome to the AdSense & Creator Funds discussion forum. Earning direct ad revenue and platform bonuses is the foundation of turning video creation into a full-time career. This category covers the setup, optimization, and rules of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), TikTok Creator Rewards Program, and AdSense. Discuss concepts like CPM (Cost Per Mille) and RPM (Revenue Per Mille), track RPM differences between niches (such as Finance vs. Gaming), and learn how to optimize mid-roll ad placements for maximum revenue without hurting audience retention.
Q: What is the difference between CPM and RPM?
CPM (Cost Per Mille) is what advertisers pay to show 1,000 ads on your video before YouTube takes its cut. RPM (Revenue Per Mille) is what you actually earn per 1,000 total views after YouTube's 45% cut, including income from AdSense, memberships, super chats, and premium views.
Q: What are the requirements to join the YouTube Partner Program?
To monetize, you need either: 1) 1,000 subscribers AND 4,000 valid public watch hours within the last 365 days, OR 2) 1,000 subscribers AND 10 million valid public Shorts views within the last 90 days. Your channel must also pass a manual review for policy compliance.
Q: Which niches have the highest CPM/RPM on YouTube?
Niches focusing on high-value business industries have the highest RPM. These include Personal Finance, Business/SaaS, Real Estate, Technology, E-commerce, and Digital Marketing. Entertainment, Gaming, and Comedy channels typically have lower RPMs because advertisers pay less for generic audiences.
Q: How do I increase my YouTube AdSense revenue?
To boost earnings: 1) Make videos longer than 8 minutes so you can manually place mid-roll ads, 2) Place mid-rolls right after natural cliffhangers to maintain retention, 3) Target viewers in high-paying countries (US, UK, CA, AU) by writing English metadata, and 4) Maintain clean, advertiser-friendly content.
