Hey everyone! New here – from wedding videography to YouTube?
Hey ShortVi community! I'm Alex, a 26-year-old wedding videographer from Ohio. I've been doing weddings for about 4 years now, but I'm feeling the burnout from weekend shoots and constant client revisions. I've been watching a lot of creator content lately and I'm thinking about pivoting to YouTube – specifically vlogs or behind-the-scenes videos about the wedding industry. I love the idea of building a personal brand and having more creative freedom. I've never really edited for an audience beyond clients – my editing style is very cinematic and slow-paced. I'm worried that style won't work for YouTube retention. Also, I have a Sony A7III, a 24-70mm f/2.8, and a small drone (DJI Mini 3 Pro). Do I need to buy new gear or can I make this work? Any advice for a total newbie on starting a channel from zero?
How do you approach a brand deal when the brand wants full creative control?
I'm a small creator (about 12k subs) and I've been approached by a small skincare brand for a sponsored video. They love my style, but in the contract they want to approve the script, the edit, and even the thumbnail. I've never done a brand deal this strict before—my previous sponsors just gave me guidelines and let me do my thing. I'm worried that if I let them control everything, the video will feel like an ad and my audience will notice, which could hurt my channel. I want to keep the collaboration positive, but I also want to protect my creative voice. How do you guys handle this kind of situation? Do you push back on creative control clauses, or do you accept them for the money? Any advice on negotiating a middle ground without losing the deal?
Reels blowing up on Facebook but flat on Instagram – same content, same hashtags. What gives?
Hey everyone! I've been posting the same Reels to both Instagram and Facebook for the past two weeks (about 12 videos), and the performance gap is wild. On Facebook, a couple of my Reels hit 50k+ views with decent engagement, but on Instagram, the same content is barely scraping 200-300 views. I'm using the same captions, same hashtags, same posting time. I've double-checked that my Instagram account is set to public, and I'm not shadowbanned as far as I can tell (I can still use all features). I know the algorithms are different, but this feels like more than just a difference in audience size. My Instagram followers are around 2k, and my Facebook page has only 800. Yet Facebook is outperforming Instagram massively. Has anyone else experienced this? What could be causing Instagram to suppress my Reels? I've heard about the 'original content' push and the importance of Reels audio, but I'm using trending audio on some and original audio on others. Any insights would be super appreciated!
How to automate YouTube Shorts editing with AI without losing quality?
Hey everyone! I've been posting YouTube Shorts for about six months now, and I'm spending way too much time on editing. I shoot multiple clips with my phone, then spend hours in CapCut trimming, adding captions, and syncing to music. I've seen people mention AI tools like Descript, OpusClip, and even Premiere's new AI features, but I'm worried about the output looking too generic or losing my personal style. What's your current workflow for automating Shorts editing? I'm especially interested in tools that can auto-cut silences, generate captions with emojis, and pick the best moments from longer videos. Also, how do you keep the quality consistent—like color grading and branding? Any tips for someone who wants to save time but keep the videos feeling authentic? Thanks!
CTR Dropped After Changing Thumbnail Style – Need Advice on What Works in 2026
Hey everyone! I run a small tech review channel (about 40k subs) and I've been experimenting with my thumbnails recently. For the past two years, I used the classic 'shocked face + red arrow + bold text' style, and my average CTR was around 6-7%. But after seeing some big creators switch to cleaner, minimalist thumbnails, I decided to revamp my entire library and new uploads to match that style. Now my latest three videos have CTRs of 2.1%, 2.4%, and 1.9% – a massive drop. I'm wondering if I should revert to my old style or if the algorithm just needs time to adjust? Also, I've been using A/B testing in YouTube Studio, but the results are confusing because the thumbnails that win in the test still perform poorly overall. Any advice on what thumbnail styles actually work in 2026? I'm open to any data-driven suggestions or personal experiences. Thanks!
AdSense RPM Dropped 40% After Switching to Shorts – Is This Normal?
Hey everyone, I've been making long-form videos for about two years and my AdSense RPM was stable around $4-5. Last month, I decided to pivot to Shorts because I saw how much reach they get. I post 3-4 Shorts a day now, and my views have skyrocketed (from 10k/month to 200k/month), but my AdSense earnings are actually lower than before! My RPM is now around $0.15, which is a 40% drop from my old average. I know Shorts pay less, but this seems extreme. I'm using the same niche (tech reviews) and my audience seems similar. Is this normal? Should I go back to long-form or is there a way to make Shorts more profitable? Any advice would be appreciated!
Best Royalty-Free Music for High-Energy Shorts? (Pacing/Frequency Matching)
Hey everyone! I'm a new creator trying to grow my Shorts channel, and I'm struggling to find music that actually matches the fast pacing of my edits. I've been using the YouTube Audio Library, but most tracks feel too generic or the beat doesn't sync well with my cuts. I'm aiming for high-energy, punchy content (gaming clips, reaction-style, quick tutorials). I know about the 'trending sounds' feature in Shorts, but I want something more original that still has that viral feel. What are your go-to sources for royalty-free music that's actually good for Shorts? Also, do you have any tips for matching the music's BPM to the edit's pacing? I've heard about using waveforms in Premiere Pro to align cuts, but I'm not sure how to do it efficiently. Any advice would be awesome!
How to Fix Audio Drift in DaVinci Resolve When Using Proxy Files?
Hey everyone! I've been editing a documentary project in DaVinci Resolve 18.6 and I'm experiencing a really frustrating issue: the audio drifts out of sync with the video when I'm working with proxy files. My source footage is 4K BRAW from a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K, and I generated optimized media (ProRes 422 Proxy) to speed up editing on my laptop. In the timeline, the audio starts perfectly in sync, but after about 10 minutes, it's noticeably off—maybe half a second late. When I disable the proxy and switch back to the original BRAW files, the sync is perfect. Has anyone else run into this? Is it a known bug with Resolve's proxy handling, or am I missing a setting? I'm editing on a MacBook Pro M1 Max, 64GB RAM, using Resolve Studio. Any help would be massively appreciated!
Does anyone else's cat love sitting on their keyboard while editing?
I've been editing a lot of vertical shorts lately, trying to hit that 3-post-a-day grind, and my cat, Mochi, has decided that my keyboard is the perfect place to nap. Every time I'm in the middle of a tight cut in Premiere Pro, she plops down right on the spacebar and pauses my playback. It's driving me nuts, but she's so cute I can't get mad. Is this a common thing for other creators? How do you deal with pets interrupting your workflow? I'm thinking about getting a keyboard cover or maybe setting up a decoy cardboard box next to my desk. Any tips would be awesome!
Feeling invisible after 6 months of consistent posting – how do you keep going?
I’ve been posting Shorts every single day for the past six months. I’ve tried different formats, hooks, and editing styles, but my channel is stuck at around 500 subscribers and my views rarely break 1k. I know the algorithm needs time, but I’m starting to feel like I’m just screaming into the void. I love making videos, but the lack of any growth is really draining my motivation. I’ve read all the advice about thumbnails, titles, and watch time, but nothing seems to move the needle. I’m starting to question if my content is just not good enough, or if I’m missing something fundamental. Has anyone else been through this? How do you keep your head up when the numbers don’t move? I don’t want to quit, but I also can’t keep pouring hours into something that feels invisible.
How to structure a portfolio for corporate video work?
Hey everyone! I'm a freelance videographer looking to break into more corporate video work (interviews, product promos, internal comms). My current portfolio is mostly wedding and event highlights, which is fun but not what I want to pitch to corporate clients. I've been told I need a more focused portfolio that speaks to business needs, but I'm not sure how to structure it. Should I create a separate website or just reorder my existing one? What's the best way to showcase corporate-style work when I don't have many examples yet? I'm thinking of doing a few spec projects, but I want to make sure I'm not wasting time. Also, what's the ideal number of projects to show? Any advice on how to present the work (case studies vs. just reels) would be super helpful!
Sony A7S III vs. FX3 for run-and-gun documentary work – which is better in 2026?
Hey everyone, I’ve been shooting short documentaries for about two years now, mostly on a Sony A6400. I’m ready to upgrade to a full-frame setup for better low-light performance and more cinematic depth of field. My style is very run-and-gun: I rarely use a tripod, I’m often in fast-changing lighting conditions, and I need reliable autofocus. I’m torn between the Sony A7S III and the FX3. I know they share the same sensor and basically the same image quality, but the FX3 has the fan and the XLR handle, while the A7S III has the viewfinder. I’ve read that the FX3’s cooling allows unlimited recording in 4K 60fps without overheating, but the A7S III can also do that in most conditions now after firmware updates. I’m leaning toward the FX3 for its dedicated video features, but I’m worried about missing the EVF for bright outdoor shooting. Which one would you recommend for documentary work in 2026?
Dealing with a false copyright claim on a reaction video – what are my options?
Hey everyone, I run a small channel where I do commentary and reaction videos to movie trailers and short films. A few days ago, I uploaded a reaction to a popular indie short film trailer, and within hours I got a copyright claim from a company claiming they own the music in the trailer. The thing is, the trailer itself is freely available on YouTube and the filmmaker even encouraged reactions. The claim is blocking my video in several countries and I can't monetize it. I've already disputed the claim through YouTube Studio, explaining that my use is transformative commentary and falls under fair use. But I'm worried the claimant might reject it and then I'll have to deal with a copyright strike or even a lawsuit. Has anyone here successfully fought a false claim? Should I get a lawyer involved, or is there a simpler way to resolve this? Also, I've heard about filing a counter-notification – is that risky? Any advice would be hugely appreciated.
Best way to create a realistic energy shield effect in After Effects without plugins?
I'm using After Effects 2026 on a Windows machine with a Ryzen 9 and RTX 4080, so performance isn't an issue. I've already keyframed the impact positions using null objects and want to drive the distortion from those. The shield is meant to be a dome around a character, so I'm working in 3D space with a solid layer parented to a 3D null. Any advice on compositing this with a live-action plate would also be appreciated!
