YouTube CTR dropped from 8% to 2% after thumbnail change – what am I doing wrong?
Hey everyone, I've been running a tech review channel for about a year now, and I've been steadily growing. Last month my average CTR was around 8%, which I thought was pretty good. But after I updated the thumbnails for my last three videos, my CTR has plummeted to 2%! I'm using the same style as before – bright colors, bold text, and a clear focal point. The only difference is I switched from using a yellow background to a blue one, and I started adding a red arrow pointing to the product. I thought that would make it more clickable, but apparently not. I've checked my analytics and the impressions are the same, so it's definitely the CTR that's hurting. I'm wondering if the blue is just too similar to YouTube's own UI and gets lost, or if the red arrow is actually a turn-off. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Any advice on how to A/B test thumbnails effectively without waiting weeks? I'm using TubeBuddy's A/B testing feature, but I'm not sure if I'm using it right.
