Hello from a sound designer turning to video!

Hey everyone, I'm Alex (audiopro78). I've been a sound designer for film and TV for over a decade, but I've recently started creating my own video content—mostly tutorials and behind-the-scenes looks at my studio. I'm excited to learn more about the visual side: editing, color grading, and keeping viewers engaged. Looking forward to connecting with fellow creators!

YouTube CTR dropped from 8% to 2% after thumbnail change – what am I doing wrong?

Hey everyone, I've been running a tech review channel for about a year now, and I've been steadily growing. Last month my average CTR was around 8%, which I thought was pretty good. But after I updated the thumbnails for my last three videos, my CTR has plummeted to 2%! I'm using the same style as before – bright colors, bold text, and a clear focal point. The only difference is I switched from using a yellow background to a blue one, and I started adding a red arrow pointing to the product. I thought that would make it more clickable, but apparently not. I've checked my analytics and the impressions are the same, so it's definitely the CTR that's hurting. I'm wondering if the blue is just too similar to YouTube's own UI and gets lost, or if the red arrow is actually a turn-off. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Any advice on how to A/B test thumbnails effectively without waiting weeks? I'm using TubeBuddy's A/B testing feature, but I'm not sure if I'm using it right.

How to price brand deals when your channel is growing fast?

Hey everyone! I'm a small creator (about 25k subs) focused on audio gear reviews and music production tutorials. Over the last few months, my channel has blown up thanks to a couple of videos going viral, and I'm now getting approached by brands for sponsorships. I've never done a paid brand deal before, and I'm totally lost on how to price myself. I know the general rule of thumb is $10-$20 per 1,000 views for integrated sponsorships, but my average views are around 8k-15k per video, with a few spikes to 100k+. Some brands are offering flat rates like $200-$300, which feels low, but I also don't want to scare them off. I've also heard about CPM-based deals, affiliate links, and exclusive codes – how do I factor those in? What's a fair rate for a channel my size? Should I negotiate based on my recent viral videos or my average? And how do I structure the deal (e.g., flat fee vs. performance-based)? Any advice from creators who've been through this would be a huge help!

After Effects 2026: Best Way to Track a 3D Camera into a Moving Shot?

Hey everyone! I'm working on a short film project and I need to composite a 3D object (a holographic UI) into a moving shot. The shot is a handheld dolly-in with some rotation and parallax. I've tried using the 3D Camera Tracker in After Effects 2026, but the track keeps breaking or sliding, especially when there's motion blur or occluders passing through. I've already tried increasing the 'Advanced' settings like 'Detailed Analysis' and 'Solve Method' but it's still not rock solid. I'm wondering if I'm missing something in the workflow. Should I be using Mocha AE for planar tracking first, or is there a better way to combine the 3D camera track with manual tracking? Also, I'm exporting from a 4K BRAW file (Blackmagic RAW) – could that affect the tracking accuracy? I'd love to hear how you all handle tricky camera moves for VFX compositing in AE. Any tips on tracking settings, pre-processing, or using external trackers like Syntheyes or PFTrack would be awesome!

Reels algorithm 2026: why is my high-retention video stuck at 500 views?

Hey everyone, I've been posting daily Reels for the past month, and I'm consistently seeing a pattern: videos with 80%+ retention and decent watch time (over 15 seconds for a 30-sec clip) get stuck at around 400-600 views, while my lower-performing ones somehow get a few thousand. I'm using trending audio, native uploads, no watermarks, and posting at peak times. I've also been engaging with comments within the first hour. I know the algorithm changed with the 2026 update, but I can't find clear info on what actually matters now. Is it still about shares and saves? Or is it now more about 'completion loops' or something? I'm about to pull my hair out – any insights from people who've cracked this would be huge.

TikTok audio sync drift after 30 seconds – is there a fix in CapCut or Premiere?

Hey everyone, I've been editing vertical videos for TikTok and Reels for a few months now, and I keep running into a frustrating issue: the audio drifts out of sync with the video after about 30 seconds of runtime. It starts fine, but by the end of a 60-second clip, the lips are noticeably off. I'm using a Sony ZV-1 with a Rode Wireless Go II, and I'm editing in CapCut desktop (the free version). I've tried syncing manually, but it's tedious and inconsistent. Is this a known issue with long-form vertical content, or is my workflow causing it? I've heard about frame rate mismatches, but I'm shooting at 30fps and my timeline is also 30fps. Could it be a variable frame rate problem from my phone (I sometimes record B-roll on my iPhone)? Any tips on how to fix this quickly and prevent it in the future? I'd love to hear what works for you all.

How do you handle clients who keep asking for unlimited revisions without paying extra?

Hey everyone, I've been freelancing as a video editor for about two years now, and I keep running into the same issue: clients who treat the revision process like an all-you-can-eat buffet. I'll deliver a cut, they'll ask for changes, I'll make them, and then they come back with another round of tweaks—sometimes five or six rounds on a single 3-minute video. My contracts clearly state "two rounds of revisions included," but clients often argue that the changes are "minor" or that they're just "polishing." I'm worried about burning bridges, but I'm also tired of working for free. How do you guys structure your revision policies to avoid this? Do you charge per hour for extra revisions, or do you have a flat fee per additional round? Also, how do you communicate this to clients without sounding like a jerk? Any templates or scripts you use would be super helpful.

YouTube Shorts Audio Sync Drift After Export – Anyone Else?

Hey everyone, I've been editing YouTube Shorts in Premiere Pro (2026 version) and I'm running into a persistent audio sync drift issue after export. The timeline looks perfect – waveforms align, no gaps – but when I upload the final MP4 to YouTube Studio, the audio gradually falls out of sync by about 200-300ms over a 60-second clip. I'm using a 48kHz audio sample rate, 30fps timeline, and exporting with the H.264 YouTube preset. I've tried clearing cache, rendering in place, and even re-importing the audio file, but the drift remains. My source files are from a Sony A7S III (XAVC S 4K, 60fps) and a Rode Wireless GO II lav. Is this a known issue with Premiere's VFR handling or YouTube's re-encoding? Any solid fixes would be appreciated.

YouTube Shorts retention tanking after 3 seconds – anyone else seeing this?

Hey everyone, I’ve been posting daily Shorts for about 6 weeks now, and my analytics are showing a brutal drop-off at the 3-second mark on almost every video. I’m using Premiere Pro to cut sequences tightly, adding text overlays and sound effects, but still only about 30% of viewers make it past the first 3 seconds. My swipe-away rate is hovering around 70%. I’ve tried different hooks – fast cuts, a question on screen, even a quick zoom-in – but nothing seems to stick. My niche is tech reviews (short product demos), so I’m wondering if my content just isn’t hooking the right audience. Has anyone else dealt with this? What’s your secret to keeping people past that first swipe? I’m using a Sony ZV-E10 with a Sigma 16mm f/1.4, shooting in 4K 60fps, exporting at 1080p 60fps for Shorts. Any advice on editing or pacing would be huge. Thanks!

New Creator Portfolio – Need Feedback on My Editing Style and Color Grading

Hey everyone, I've been creating short-form content on YouTube and TikTok for about six months now, and I finally put together a portfolio reel showcasing my best work. I'm trying to land some freelance gigs for brand collaborations and social media management, but I'm not sure if my editing style and color grading are up to industry standards. I use DaVinci Resolve for grading and Premiere Pro for cutting, and I've attached a link to my reel. The feedback I'm most interested in is pacing: I tend to go for fast cuts with a lot of energy, but I worry it might be too chaotic for some brands. Also, my color grade leans heavily teal-and-orange, which I love, but I'm wondering if it's too cliché now. Any honest critiques would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance!

YouTube CTR Dropping After Thumbnail Change – Algorithm Penalty or Viewer Fatigue?

Hey everyone, I’m running a tech review channel (about 50K subs) and recently decided to overhaul my thumbnails to a more 'clickbaity' style with bigger text and brighter colors. For the first week, my CTR actually jumped from 6% to 9%, but now it’s plummeted back to around 4.5% on recent uploads. My impressions are still high (around 100K per video), but the click-through rate is tanking. I’m worried YouTube’s algorithm is penalizing me because viewers are clicking and then bouncing quickly—my average view duration has dropped from 8 minutes to about 5 minutes. I’ve tested a few different thumbnail styles using YouTube Studio’s ‘Test & Compare’ feature, but the results are inconclusive—the samples are too small. Should I revert to my old style, or is this just a temporary dip as my audience adjusts? Also, could the lower retention be causing the algorithm to show my videos to less interested viewers, creating a feedback loop? Any advice on diagnosing this would be great.
