CTR Dropped After Redesigning Thumbnails – What Am I Doing Wrong?
Hey everyone! I've been running a tech review channel for about a year now, and my CTR used to hover around 6-7%. Last month, I decided to overhaul my thumbnail style to make them 'pop' more – brighter colors, bigger text, more arrows and emojis. Since then, my CTR has plummeted to 3.5% on recent videos, even though my content quality and topics are similar. I'm using YouTube Studio's 'How viewers find you' report to track this. I've read all the guides about clickable thumbnails, but I'm clearly missing something. My new thumbnails are 1280x720, under 2MB, and I'm using bold sans-serif fonts (like Montserrat) – but maybe I'm overdoing it? I've tested a few variations with TubeBuddy's A/B testing, but the results are confusing. Could it be that my audience actually preferred the simpler, original style?
