Why is my YouTube CTR dropping after changing thumbnails? (A/B test gone wrong)
Hey everyone, I've been running a faceless tech channel for about 8 months now, and I'm trying to figure out a recent CTR slump. I decided to A/B test new thumbnails on my last 5 videos using YouTube's built-in 'Test & Compare' feature in Studio. I made two variants for each video: one with a close-up of the product (like a phone or laptop) and one with a bold text overlay. The test ran for about 2 weeks, and the results showed the close-up versions won on most videos, so I applied the winners. But after that, my overall channel CTR dropped from 6.1% to 4.3% over the last 10 days. I'm confused because the winning thumbnails were supposed to be the best performers. Could it be that the test only measures impressions from subscribers/home feed, not from suggested or search? Or is there something wrong with how I'm interpreting the data?
