Dialogue audio sounds thin and boxy – what am I doing wrong?
Hey everyone, I'm a solo creator shooting interview-style videos in my home office. I recently upgraded to a Rode NTG4+ shotgun mic on a boom arm, but my dialogue still sounds thin and boxy – like it's recorded in a tin can. I've tried different positions (close, medium, far) and even lowered the gain on my Zoom H6, but the problem persists. My room is about 4x4 meters with bare walls and a large window. I'm editing in DaVinci Resolve and applying a basic EQ (high-pass at 80Hz, slight presence boost at 5kHz), but it's not helping much. I know shotgun mics are not ideal indoors, but I thought they'd be okay for a single speaker. Should I switch to a lavalier or a dynamic mic? Or is this more of an acoustic treatment issue? I'm on a budget, so I can't afford expensive panels. Any practical advice would be greatly appreciated!
