Why does my 4K footage look soft and lack that 'cinematic pop'? (Sony A7S III + DaVinci)

Hey everyone! I've been shooting with my Sony A7S III in 4K (XAVC S-I, 10-bit 4:2:2, S-Log3) and grading in DaVinci Resolve Studio. My footage is technically sharp, but it always looks a bit flat and soft, especially compared to some of the cinematic footage I see on YouTube and Vimeo. I'm using a 35mm f/1.8 prime, usually stopped down to f/2.8, and I've got my sharpness set to 0 in-camera. I grade using a CST from S-Log3 to Rec.709, but the result still feels... digital and lifeless. I've attached a still from a recent shoot (a simple indoor interview) – you can see the skin tones are okay, but the overall image just lacks that 'pop' and depth. I'm not sure if it's my lighting (I'm using two Aputure 120D II's with softboxes), my grading workflow, or something about my sharpening settings in Resolve. I've tried adding a bit of contrast and saturation, but it either looks too crunchy or still flat. I've also tried using a LUT, but that just makes it look worse. Does anyone have a solid workflow for getting that clean, sharp, yet organic cinematic look from S-Log3? I'd love to hear your go-to steps for sharpening, contrast, and color – maybe I'm missing a key step like a proper sharpening pass or a specific node structure. Any advice would be massively appreciated!

Why is my YouTube CTR dropping after changing my thumbnail style?

Hey everyone, I run a tech review channel with about 40k subs, and for the past two weeks I've seen a steady decline in my click-through rate (CTR) from 6.5% down to 4.2%. I recently switched to a more minimal thumbnail style (cleaner text, bigger product shots, less clutter) because I thought it would look more professional, but it seems to be hurting performance. My impressions are actually up slightly, but fewer people are clicking. I've attached a side-by-side comparison of my old vs. new thumbnails. The old ones had bright colors, arrows, and a lot of text. The new ones are more like what big tech channels use – simple, high-res, with a bold word or two. I'm wondering if this is just a temporary dip as the algorithm recalibrates, or if I should revert back to my old style. Has anyone else experienced this after a redesign? Any advice on how to A/B test thumbnails effectively without confusing the audience?

How do you stay creative and avoid burnout when editing the same type of content for months?

Hey everyone, I've been editing gaming videos for a YouTube channel for about eight months now, and I'm starting to feel really burned out. The editing style is always the same: jump cuts, zooms, and a few sound effects. I know it's what the audience expects, but I'm losing that spark that made me love editing in the first place. I find myself procrastinating on every project and just going through the motions. I've tried taking short breaks, but they don't seem to help much. I'm wondering how other creators handle this. Do you switch up your editing style even if it might not perform as well? Do you work on personal passion projects on the side? Or maybe you have a completely different approach to keep things fresh and avoid that creative rut? I'd love to hear your strategies and what actually works for you in the long run.

Why is my RPM dropping after switching to 8-minute videos? Need advice on AdSense optimization

Hey everyone, I've been a YouTube creator for about 2 years now, focusing on tech reviews and tutorials. Recently, I decided to extend my video length from around 5-6 minutes to 8-10 minutes, thinking that would boost my watch time and ad revenue. However, over the past month, my RPM has dropped from $4.50 to $2.80, and my CPM is also down. I'm using AdSense and have enabled mid-roll ads, but the revenue per 1,000 views is still declining. Is this a common issue when you change video length, or am I doing something wrong? I'd appreciate any insights from creators who have experienced similar fluctuations.

How do you structure short-form videos for maximum retention in 2026?

I've been creating YouTube Shorts for about six months now, and I'm struggling with keeping viewers past the first 3 seconds. I've tried the standard hook-giveaway-punchline structure, but my retention graph still looks like a cliff. I'm wondering if the algorithm has changed how it rewards watch time vs. replays. Are there any new scriptwriting techniques that work better for short-form in 2026? I mainly do educational tech explainers (60-90 seconds). Also, I'm curious about how to use cliffhangers or pattern interrupts without feeling gimmicky. Any advice on structuring the narrative arc for a 60-second video would be amazing.

LumaFusion vs CapCut: Which mobile editor is better for professional YouTube thumbnails and color grading?

Hey everyone! I'm a travel vlogger and I'm trying to decide between LumaFusion and CapCut for my mobile editing workflow. I shoot with a DJI Pocket 3 and edit on an iPad Pro M4. My main concerns are: 1) Color grading – I need reliable LUT support and fine-tuned controls for skin tones, not just filters. 2) Export quality – I want 4K 60fps HDR without compression artifacts. 3) Thumbnail creation – Can either app create high-res thumbnails directly, or do I need to use a separate app like Snapseed? I've heard LumaFusion is more 'pro' but CapCut has better AI features and is free. Any real-world experiences would be super helpful! I'm willing to pay for LumaFusion if it truly delivers better results.
