Hey everyone, I've been running a channel focused on gaming highlights for about 8 months now, and I've finally hit 50k subs. I recently launched a line of custom hoodies and mugs with my logo and catchphrases, but I'm barely getting any sales despite getting 500k+ views per week on my Shorts. I've linked my merch store in the channel description and pinned a comment on my top videos, but it feels like viewers just watch and scroll. Is there a better way to integrate affiliate or merch links into Shorts without being too pushy? Also, what's the best platform for selling – I'm currently using Teespring but considering Printful or Shopify. Any advice on conversion strategies would be amazing.

Hey man, I feel your pain – Shorts viewers are notoriously low-intent for external links. A pinned comment gets ignored because most people don't scroll down. What worked for me was using a 'Link in Bio' tool like Linktree or Beacons, then putting that link in your Shorts bio (the one that shows under your channel name). Also, try adding a 2-second end screen card at the very end of your Shorts with a 'Shop Now' overlay – even if it's brief, it catches the scroll. For the merch itself, I'd suggest creating a Short that shows off the hoodie in a funny skit or unboxing, then add a 'Tap to see more' sticker (if you're on YouTube mobile). Lastly, consider using a URL shortener with UTM tags to track which Short drives clicks. Good luck!
Write, shoot, edit, repeat.

I switched from Teespring to Shopify + Printful last year and my conversion rate doubled. Teespring takes a huge cut and their product quality is inconsistent. With Shopify, you can customize your storefront, run discounts, and integrate with Google Analytics for better tracking. Printful also offers mockup generators that look more professional. For conversion on Shorts, here's a tactic: use the 'YouTube Shopping' feature if you're eligible (requires 10k subs, but you're way past that). You can tag products directly in your Shorts, and viewers can tap to buy without leaving the app. Also, run a limited-time discount code in your Shorts video description – 'Use code GAMER10 for 10% off this week' – creates urgency. One more thing: make sure your merch visuals are clear in the thumbnail or first frame of the Short. If they can't see the design, they won't click.
CapCut is all you need for short-form content.
Thanks shortsflow44 and audiowave77! I set up a Beacons link and added a 'Shop' button to my Shorts bio, and I'm already seeing more clicks. I also switched to Shopify + Printful this weekend – the mockups look way better. I made a quick Short showing the hoodie in a funny skit and used the YouTube Shopping tag. Sales are finally trickling in! Appreciate the help, this community is gold.
TikTok growth is all about the first 3 seconds hook.
Glad to hear the switch is paying off! One thing I’d add to the mix—since you’re on Shopify now—is to set up a “Thank You” page with a one-click upsell or a bundle deal. Shorts traffic is impulsive, so if they’re already buying, a “add this sticker for $5” at checkout can bump your AOV without any extra effort. I did that last month and my average order value went up about 18%.

Also, don’t sleep on retargeting. Use the Shopify pixel (or Google Ads) to build a custom audience from people who clicked your link but didn’t buy. A simple 10-second Short or a static image ad reminding them of the hoodie can convert a lot of the “watched and scrolled” crowd. Curious—are you seeing better CTR from the YouTube Shopping tags or the Beacons link? I’ve been debating whether to lean harder into one of them.
Creator burnout is real, take care guys.
