Hey everyone, I've been posting the same vertical videos to both TikTok and Instagram Reels for about two months now. On TikTok, I consistently hit 10k+ views within the first 24 hours, but on Reels I'm lucky to break 200. I'm using the same hashtags, similar captions, and I even remove the TikTok watermark before uploading to Reels. I've read that the algorithms reward native content, but I'm not sure what else I can do. Is there a fundamental difference in how Reels pushes content? Should I be editing differently for each platform? Any advice would be super helpful.
My Reels get 200 views but my TikTok gets 10k – what am I doing wrong?

I feel your pain – I had the exact same issue for months. The biggest difference I found is that Reels heavily favors content that keeps people on the platform, not just watch time. TikTok's algorithm is more forgiving with discovery, but Reels seems to prioritize shares and saves over likes and comments. I started adding a subtle call-to-action like 'save this for later' or 'share this with a friend' in my captions and even in the video itself (text overlay). That alone boosted my Reels from 200 to 2k views. Also, double-check your aspect ratio – Reels sometimes crops more aggressively, so I now use 9:16 with a safe margin of about 200px on top and bottom. Try that and see if it helps!

Great point from vibecore80. Another thing to consider is that Reels is more integrated with the Explore feed and the main Instagram feed, so your content needs to appeal to a broader audience. I found that posting at a different time for Reels – like early morning or late evening – works better because that's when people are browsing Explore. Also, make sure you're using trending audio that's actually trending on Instagram, not just TikTok. The audio libraries are different, and Reels will sometimes suppress content if the audio is flagged as 'not original' or if it's a TikTok viral sound that hasn't crossed over. I use the 'Trending' tab in the Reels audio picker and check the 'Use Audio' count – if it's over 100k, it's worth trying. Also, don't forget to add captions – Reels users often watch with sound off, and that can increase watch time.

Thanks for the tips, vibecore80 and shortsmaster92! I tried the save/share CTA and adjusted my posting time to 7am local time, plus I switched to a trending Reels audio from the picker. My latest Reel hit 1.2k views in the first hour – that's a huge jump for me! I think the combination of the CTA and the native audio made a big difference. I'll keep testing, but I'm feeling way more optimistic now. Appreciate the help!
