How do you structure your portfolio for corporate video clients?

Portfolio Showcase Created: 03.08.2026 11:37 2 Views
I'm a freelance videographer looking to pivot from weddings to corporate/commercial work. I've been told my current portfolio (mostly wedding films) doesn't resonate with corporate clients. How do you structure your portfolio to attract businesses? Do you lead with your best work, use case studies, or keep a simple showreel? Also, should I include behind-the-scenes or gear shots, or keep it purely final deliverables? Any advice on what corporate clients actually look for would be hugely appreciated!

Great question. Corporate clients care about ROI and professionalism, not just pretty images. I'd suggest creating a separate portfolio site (or a dedicated section) that leads with a 60–90 second showreel specifically tailored to corporate work. Edit it with fast cuts, clear titles, and a professional voiceover if possible. Then, back it up with 3–5 case studies that show the problem, solution, and results (e.g., 'Increased client engagement by 40% with this brand film'). Avoid wedding content entirely on that site—it sends mixed signals. Also, include a clear 'Services' and 'Contact' page with a simple form. Corporate clients often want quick answers, not a cinematic experience.
Focus on retention, the rest will follow.
I agree with the separate site approach. I'd also recommend including a 'Clients' logo wall (even if you've done a few small projects) to build trust. For the showreel, use the first 5 seconds to hook them—start with a strong visual or a client testimonial. And yes, skip gear shots and BTS—corporate clients don't care about your camera; they care about the final product and whether you can deliver on time and budget. Instead, add a short 'About' page that highlights your reliability, communication, and experience with similar industries. If you have any corporate projects, even spec work, feature those first.

Exactly. Case studies are gold. I structure each case study as: Client Name, Industry, The Challenge, My Approach, The Outcome (with metrics if available). Keep them concise—no more than 2 paragraphs each. Also, consider adding a downloadable PDF version of your portfolio for sales calls. And don't forget to optimize your site for mobile—many decision-makers will view it on their phone. One more tip: include a video testimonial from a corporate client if you have one—it adds a human touch that static reviews don't.

I've been in the corporate video world for 8 years. The biggest mistake I see is showing too many projects. Corporate clients get overwhelmed. Pick your top 5–7 projects that are most relevant to the industries you want to target. For example, if you want to work with tech companies, show a clean, modern tech brand film. If you want healthcare, show a patient testimonial video. Tailor your portfolio per pitch—don't just send a generic link. I also recommend adding a 'Process' page that explains how you work (pre-production, production, post) to reassure them you're organized. And definitely avoid any wedding content—it instantly makes them think you're not serious about corporate.

Thank you all for the detailed advice! I've decided to build a separate corporate portfolio site with a tailored showreel, case studies, and a clear process page. I'll also create a few spec projects to fill in gaps. I really appreciate the tips on metrics and testimonials—I'll work on getting those from a few small business clients I've helped. This gives me a solid plan. Thanks again!
