Showcasing my new drone reel – feedback on pacing and transitions?

Nice work on the reel! I just watched it, and the color grading is solid – those LUTs really pop. For pacing, I noticed you have a lot of quick cuts in the first 20 seconds, which is great for hooking the viewer, but then it slows down a bit too much for the forest section. Consider matching the music tempo more closely – if you're using a track with a BPM around 120, try to align your cuts to the beat. In Premiere, you can use 'Auto-duck' for music, but for manual sync, I'd recommend marking beats with the 'M' key on the timeline.

Transitions-wise, the cross-dissolves are fine, but for a drone reel, you might want to try more dynamic wipes or even speed ramps. For example, when you transition from the city to the coast, a quick whip pan or a zoom transition can make it feel more energetic. Also, make sure your transitions are consistent – I saw a few hard cuts mixed with dissolves, which can be jarring. Overall, great start!

I agree with the previous comment. One thing I'd add is about the structure – for client reels, it's often better to lead with your absolute best shot in the first 5 seconds, even if it's not from the beginning of your story. You have a stunning aerial of the lighthouse at 0:12 – maybe move that to the very start. Also, consider adding a simple title card with your name/logo and contact info at the beginning and end – it looks more professional.

For pacing, I'd suggest shortening the reel to 60 seconds. Most clients have short attention spans, and a tighter edit forces you to keep only the strongest shots. In Premiere, you can use the 'Ripple Edit' tool to quickly trim clips and maintain sync. Also, I noticed you have a few shots with visible camera movement – like a slight yaw – that might be distracting. Try stabilizing them with Warp Stabilizer, but be careful not to overdo it, as it can create a 'wobble' if the movement is too extreme.

I went back and re-edited the reel based on your advice – I moved the lighthouse shot to the beginning, tightened it to 60 seconds, and matched the cuts to the beat.
