How to approach big YouTubers for a collab without sounding desperate?

Collab Corner Created: 10.08.2026 03:32 34 Views
Hey everyone! I've been running my vlog channel for about 2 years now (just hit 50k subs) and I really want to collaborate with some bigger creators in my niche (travel + lifestyle). I've tried a couple of cold emails and DMs but got no replies. I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing something wrong or if they just ignore small channels.

What's the best way to pitch a collab to a creator with 1M+ subs? Should I focus on a specific video idea, offer to do all the editing, or maybe just try to meet them at events? I want to be respectful of their time but also make it worth their while. Any success stories or tips would be amazing!

I feel your pain, vlogpro73. I've been there. The key is to stop cold pitching and start building a relationship first. Engage with their content genuinely for a few weeks—leave thoughtful comments, share their videos, tag them (but not spammy). Then when you DM, reference something specific from their recent video and explain exactly how your collab idea fits their channel's style. Also, make sure you have a clear value proposition: what unique audience or skill do you bring? If you're offering to edit, that's a big plus. But honestly, the most successful collab I did was when I met a bigger creator at a conference—nothing beats face-to-face. Try to attend VidSummit or similar events.
Always testing the YouTube algorithm.
Solid advice from vlogmaker25. One thing that worked for me was creating a 'collab pitch video' specifically for the creator—like a 60-second video where I show my channel, my editing style, and a specific idea for a collab. It stands out way more than a text DM. I sent that to a 500k creator and they actually replied! Also, don't just pitch any idea—make it tailored to their niche and audience. For example, if they do travel vlogs, propose a '24-hour challenge' in a city you both love. And always include a timeline and what you'll handle (editing, thumbnail, etc.) so they see you're serious.
Keep rendering, keep uploading.

They probably get hundreds of DMs a day, so it's not personal. The trick is to make your pitch impossible to ignore. Use the 'value-first' approach: offer to create a highlight reel for their channel, or edit a short clip for them for free, just to show your skills. Once they see your work, they'll be more open to a full collab. Also, check if they have a business email in their 'About' page—that's more professional than DMs. And don't forget to follow up after a week or two, but keep it short and friendly.
TikTok growth is all about the first 3 seconds hook.
Great points here. I'd add that you should also consider collabing with creators slightly bigger than you (e.g., 100k-500k) first to build momentum and case studies. When you pitch to a 1M+ creator, you can say 'I recently collabed with X and here's how it went'—that social proof helps. Also, make sure your own channel looks professional: clean thumbnails, consistent branding, good audio. They'll check your channel before replying. And if you're offering to edit, show a quick before/after example. I've had success with that.

Thanks everyone, this is super helpful! I'm going to try the video pitch idea and also start building relationships on Instagram and Twitter before reaching out. I'll also look into smaller collabs first. I feel much more confident now. Appreciate all the tips!
