Hey everyone! I'm a travel vlogger with about 80k subs, and I recently got a DM from a gaming channel (120k subs) who wants to do a collab. He's a pretty cool guy, but our content is totally different – I do cinematic travel vlogs, he does funny gaming highlights. We both think a crossover could be fun and maybe bring some new viewers, but we're not sure how to structure it without it feeling forced.

We're thinking of doing a challenge video where he tries to edit a travel vlog and I try to edit a gaming video, but we're worried about audience retention and whether the algorithm will even know who to recommend it to. Has anyone done a cross-niche collab that actually worked? How did you handle the editing style, the intro, and the call-to-action? Any tips would be awesome!

I've done a few cross-niche collabs (I'm a fitness creator, collabed with a cooking channel). The key is to find a natural overlap – for you two, it's the 'challenge' aspect. Make the video about the process, not the niche. Edit it in a hybrid style: keep your cinematic b-roll for your segments, but use his jump cuts and sound effects for his. Also, do a dual intro where you both explain why you're doing this – it sets the stage and hooks both audiences. And don't forget to make the end screen a 'choose your adventure' to send viewers to each other's channels.

Yes! The swap idea is gold. I did something similar with a tech channel (I'm a music producer). We each remixed a track from the other's library. The key was to keep the video length around 10-12 minutes – enough to show the process, but not so long that you lose the non-core audience. Also, include a 'reaction' element where you watch each other's edits live – that creates natural commentary and keeps the energy up. And for the CTA, don't say 'go subscribe' – say 'if you want to see more of his travel stuff, check out his channel' – it feels less pushy.
