How to Find and Vet Collab Partners Without Getting Burned?

Hey everyone! I'm a small but growing channel (about 12k subs) in the tech review niche. I've been doing solo videos for a while, but I really want to start collaborating with other creators to cross-pollinate audiences and keep content fresh. The problem is, I have no idea how to properly find partners who are a good fit and not just looking to leech subs. I've seen some horror stories on here about collabs going wrong—people who ghost after you've done all the editing, or who have wildly different audience demographics that don't convert. What's your process for vetting potential collab partners? Do you use specific platforms or just cold DMs? Also, any tips on how to structure the collab so both sides benefit equally? Would love to hear what's worked (and what hasn't) for you all.

How do I price my first freelance editing gig without underselling myself?

Hey everyone, I've been editing for about two years as a hobby and finally decided to try freelancing. I just got my first inquiry—a local YouTuber wants me to edit his weekly vlogs (roughly 10-15 minutes each, raw footage supplied, no color grading needed, just cuts, b-roll, and basic sound). He asked for my rate, and I have no idea what to say. I don't want to scare him off, but I also don't want to work for peanuts. I've seen advice ranging from $15/hour to $50/hour, and some people say charge per video instead. I'm using DaVinci Resolve (free version) and have a decent PC. He mentioned he has a budget of around $100 per video—is that reasonable? I'd love to hear how you all started pricing and what pitfalls to avoid. Thanks!

"Thanks everyone, this is super helpful! I decided to go with a flat $120 per video for now, with a clear scope: one round of revisions, 1080p export, and no color grading (I'll do a basic LUT). He acc..."
