Why is my average view duration dropping after I changed my intro?
Hey everyone, I've been making YouTube videos for about two years now, mostly tech tutorials and gear reviews. My average view duration used to be around 4:30 on a 10-minute video, which I was pretty happy with. But over the last month, I decided to cut my intros from about 30 seconds to just 5 seconds, thinking it would boost retention. Instead, my average view duration has dropped to 3:10, and my click-through rate has also dipped slightly. I'm confused because conventional wisdom says shorter intros are better. Did I mess up my editing or is there something else going on? I'm using Premiere Pro 2025, and I've checked my analytics in YouTube Studio, but I can't figure out the exact cause. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
Thumbnails not getting clicks despite high impressions? Need advice on CTR optimization
Hey everyone, I've been running my channel for about 8 months now, focusing on tech tutorials and gear reviews. My latest videos are getting decent impressions (around 2-3k each), but my click-through rate is stuck at 2.5-3.5%. I know the average is supposed to be around 4-5%, so something is off. I've tried bright colors, bold text, and even using my face, but nothing seems to work. My titles are also fairly descriptive, like 'Best Budget Microphones for YouTube in 2026' or 'How to Fix Audio Levels in Premiere Pro'. I'm starting to think my thumbnails just aren't compelling enough. I've watched countless tutorials and I feel like I'm following the rules, but I'm still not seeing results. Could it be my niche? Or am I missing something about the current thumbnail trends? I'd love to hear what's working for others right now, especially if you've had a similar experience. Any feedback on my approach would be greatly appreciated!
Best way to integrate affiliate links in YouTube Shorts without getting flagged?
Hey everyone! I've been making YouTube Shorts for about 6 months now, mostly tech gadget reviews and unboxings. I've finally hit 10k subs and I'm ready to start monetizing more seriously. I've joined a few affiliate programs (Amazon Associates, Best Buy, and a couple of direct brand deals). The problem is, I'm scared of getting flagged for spammy affiliate content, especially since Shorts are so short and I can't really do a long 'link in description' spiel like in long-form videos. I've seen some creators just put the link in the comments or use a link-in-bio service, but I've also heard that YouTube's algorithm might suppress videos that are too promotional. What's the best practice for adding affiliate links to Shorts without hurting my channel's performance? Should I use a tool like Linktree, or is it better to just put the URL in the description? Also, how do I disclose properly without making the video feel like an ad? Any advice would be super helpful!
Showcasing My First 3-Minute Short Film – Looking for Honest Feedback on Color & Pacing
Hey everyone! After months of lurking and learning from this community, I finally finished my first 3-minute short film. It's a moody, dialogue-driven piece shot on a Sony A7 IV with a 35mm f/1.8, and I graded it in DaVinci Resolve using the official Sony S-Log3 to Rec.709 conversion LUT as a starting point. I've been obsessed with getting a cinematic teal-and-orange look without it feeling too heavy-handed, and I've been using the Color Warper in Resolve to fine-tune skin tones. I also cut the whole thing on the Edit page with a simple J-cut transition to keep the pacing natural. I'd really appreciate any honest feedback on two things: the overall color grade (does it look too contrasty or muddy in the shadows?) and the pacing of the edit. I intentionally let some scenes breathe with long pauses, but I'm worried it might drag. I've attached a link to the unlisted YouTube upload – please let me know what you think! I'm happy to share my node tree or project settings if that helps.
Best Way to Integrate Affiliate Links in Video Descriptions Without Getting Flagged?
Hey everyone! I've been running a tech review channel for about a year now, and I've finally started diving into affiliate marketing. I'm using Amazon Associates and a couple of tech gear programs, but I'm worried about how to place those links in my video descriptions without looking spammy or triggering YouTube's algorithm. I've heard some creators get their videos demonetized or even flagged for 'deceptive practices' when they push affiliate links too hard. Right now, I just paste a list of links at the bottom of the description, but I feel like it's not effective. Also, I'm not sure if I should put them in the pinned comment instead. What's the best practice for 2026? I want to keep my audience's trust while maximizing my click-through rate. Any advice on formatting, placement, or disclosure would be super helpful!
Best Budget-Friendly Wireless Lav Mic for Run-and-Gun Interviews?
Hey everyone! I've been doing solo run-and-gun interviews for my YouTube channel for a while now, and I'm finally ready to upgrade from my shotgun mic on a boom pole. I need a wireless lav system that won't break the bank but still sounds professional. I've seen a lot of hype around the Rode Wireless GO II and the DJI Mic, but I'm also curious about the newer budget options like the Hollyland Lark M1. Does anyone have hands-on experience with these? My main concern is audio quality in noisy outdoor environments and ease of use when I'm the only one filming. I'd love to hear what you all recommend and any tips for getting the best sound without spending a fortune.
Turning video views into merch sales: What's actually working in 2026?
Hey everyone, I've been growing my channel steadily for the past year, hitting around 50k subs and averaging 100k views per video. But my merch store is basically a ghost town – maybe 10 sales a month. I'm using a print-on-demand service and promoting it in my video descriptions and end screens, but it's just not converting. I've tried a few designs, but nothing seems to stick. I'm starting to think the problem is my approach. Are viewers even interested in buying merch from a channel my size? Or am I missing something about how to integrate merch into my content naturally? I've heard about affiliate marketing for other products, but I'm not sure if that's a better use of my time. What are you all seeing work in 2026? Any success stories or lessons learned? I'd love to hear what's actually moving units these days.
Fresh editor here — looking for advice on getting started with ShortVi!
Hey everyone! I'm Alex, a 22-year-old video editor from Manchester, UK. I've been editing short-form content for about a year now (mostly for friends' TikTok channels), but I've never really posted or engaged in a community like ShortVi. I decided to join because I want to take my editing skills to the next level and maybe start earning some income from it. I'm comfortable with Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, but I'm still learning the ropes when it comes to color grading and sound design. I'm hoping to connect with other editors and creators, and maybe find some mentorship or collaboration opportunities. I also want to learn more about how to grow my own channel and eventually monetize it. If you have any tips for a newbie like me, or if you're open to sharing your own journey, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for having me!
Hello from a New Creator: Need Advice on Starting a Tech Review Channel
<img src="/uploads/beginner-tech-review-setup-1785678197.jpg" alt="Beginner tech review creator setup with Sony camera, ring light, and editing laptop" class="thread-seo-image" style="width:100%; max-height:450px; object-fit:cover; border-radius:var(--radius-md); margin-bottom:20px;"> Hey everyone! I'm studiozone98, a long-time tech enthusiast who finally decided to start a YouTube channel. I've been lurking on ShortVi for a while and love the community vibe here. I'm planning to launch a tech review channel focusing on budget gadgets, smartphones, and accessories. I have a decent camera (Sony ZV-E10) and a basic lighting setup, but I'm a complete beginner when it comes to video editing and channel growth. I'd love to get some advice from experienced creators here: What are the best practices for scripting and structuring a tech review video? Also, what editing software do you recommend for a beginner that's not too overwhelming but still powerful? And any tips on how to get my first 100 subscribers? I'm open to any suggestions and appreciate your time!
Best mobile editing app for vertical short-form content (2026)?
<img src="/uploads/mobile-video-editing-app-vertical-timeline-1785677174.jpg" alt="Mobile video editing app on smartphone with vertical timeline and editing tools" class="thread-seo-image" style="width:100%; max-height:450px; object-fit:cover; border-radius:var(--radius-md); margin-bottom:20px;"> Hey everyone! I've been editing my YouTube Shorts and TikTok videos on my phone for a while now, mainly using CapCut, but I'm starting to feel limited by it. The auto-captions are great, but I struggle with more precise keyframing and color grading. I also want to add some advanced effects like custom transitions and motion tracking without it taking forever. What's the best mobile editing app in 2026 for vertical short-form content? I'm on an iPhone 15 Pro, so I have access to the App Store. I don't mind paying a subscription if it's worth it. I'm looking for something that balances power with a user-friendly interface. Any recommendations or experiences would be awesome!
Best way to stream 4K60 from A7S III to YouTube with low latency?
<img src="/uploads/sony-a7s3-4k60-live-stream-setup-obs-1785591922.jpg" alt="Sony A7S III live streaming setup with OBS on PC monitor showing 4K60 encoder settings" class="thread-seo-image" style="width:100%; max-height:450px; object-fit:cover; border-radius:var(--radius-md); margin-bottom:20px;"> Hey everyone! I'm diving into live streaming for the first time and I want to stream in 4K60 from my Sony A7S III to YouTube. I've got a beefy PC (RTX 3080, i9-10900K) and a Cam Link 4K, but I'm seeing conflicting info on how to actually achieve 4K60 without dropping frames or hitting high latency. I've tried OBS with the NVENC encoder, but YouTube's player seems to buffer a lot and my stream health shows 'excellent' yet viewers complain about delay. I'm using a wired 1 Gbps connection, so bandwidth isn't an issue. I've set the bitrate to 45 Mbps in OBS (which is the max for 4K60 on YouTube), but I'm not sure if I should use CBR or VBR, and whether to enable 'Look-ahead' or 'Psycho Visual Tuning' for better quality. Also, should I use the 'ultra-low latency' option in YouTube Studio? I've read that it reduces the delay to ~5 seconds but might increase buffering for viewers. Any advice on the best encoder settings and streaming workflow would be greatly appreciated!
Best AI tool for automatic color correction in DaVinci Resolve?
Hey everyone! I've been editing for a while now and I'm trying to speed up my workflow. I shoot a lot of talking-head videos for YouTube, and I always struggle with color correction – I'm not a colorist, and I feel like I spend way too much time just getting a decent look. I've heard about AI tools that can automatically color grade footage, but I'm not sure which one actually works well with DaVinci Resolve. I'm on the free version (Resolve 18.6) and my footage is mostly from a Sony A7 IV in S-Log3. I want something that can match shots and give a natural look without making my skin tones look weird. Any recommendations? Also, if you have any tips on how to set it up or any pitfalls to avoid, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
New to ShortVi: From Wedding Photographer to Video Creator – Gear and Workflow Advice?
<img src="/uploads/video-creator-workspace-sony-a7iv-dji-rs3-davinci-resolve-1784775981.jpg" alt="New video creator workspace with Sony A7 IV camera, DJI RS 3 Pro gimbal, and DaVinci Resolve editing software on laptop" class="thread-seo-image" style="width:100%; max-height:450px; object-fit:cover; border-radius:var(--radius-md); margin-bottom:20px;"> Hey everyone! I'm Jake, a wedding photographer based in Austin, TX. I've been shooting stills for about 8 years, but I recently decided to pivot into video creation – mainly cinematic short films and behind-the-scenes content for social media. I've got a Sony A7 IV body and a few prime lenses (24mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.2), but I'm unsure about the best video-specific gear to add first. Is a gimbal like the DJI RS 3 Pro essential, or can I get away with a monopod and stabilization in post? Also, I'm totally new to editing software – would DaVinci Resolve (free version) be enough for color grading and basic cuts, or should I jump straight into Premiere Pro? I'm also curious about the YouTube algorithm: do you guys think a hybrid photo/video channel works, or should I focus purely on video content to grow? Any tips for a noob would be hugely appreciated!
Struggling with pacing in my 10-minute documentary-style videos – any tips?
Hey everyone, I've been making documentary-style videos on YouTube for about six months now, focusing on urban exploration and history. My videos are usually around 10 minutes, but I keep getting feedback that the pacing feels slow or that viewers drop off around the 4-minute mark. I've tried using more b-roll and cutting down on talking heads, but it still feels like I'm losing people. I think my script structure might be the issue – I tend to write a linear narrative from start to finish, but maybe I need to front-load more hooks or use a non-linear structure? Any advice on pacing a mid-length documentary script would be hugely appreciated. I use Premiere Pro and record voiceover with a Rode NT1-A, so gear isn't the problem – it's definitely my storytelling.
Best Mobile Editing App for Color Grading Like DaVinci Resolve?
<img src="/uploads/ipad-pro-mobile-color-grading-app-1784276654.jpg" alt="iPad Pro with professional color grading app displaying waveform monitors and LUTs for mobile video editing" class="thread-seo-image" style="width:100%; max-height:450px; object-fit:cover; border-radius:var(--radius-md); margin-bottom:20px;"> Hey everyone! I've been editing on my laptop with DaVinci Resolve for a while, but I'm traveling now and only have my iPad Pro (M2, 12.9-inch). I need a mobile app that can handle serious color grading—especially with nodes, power windows, and LUT support. I've tried LumaFusion, but the color tools feel limited compared to Resolve. Is there anything on iPadOS that comes close? I'm specifically looking for something that supports 10-bit HDR video (from my Sony A7S III), custom curves, and real-time scopes. I don't mind paying a subscription if it's worth it. What do you all use for mobile grading on a professional level?
