How do you structure your demo reel for YouTube Shorts clients?

Hey everyone! I've been editing Shorts for a few clients now, but I'm struggling to create a portfolio that actually lands new gigs. Right now my reel is just a random collection of my best clips set to trending music, but it feels messy and clients don't seem to get what I'm good at. I want to showcase my pacing, transitions, and text animation skills specifically for vertical short-form content. I'm thinking of splitting my reel into sections like 'hook edits,' 'fast-paced transitions,' and 'motion graphics' — but I'm not sure if that's too long or if I should just do one 30-second hype reel. Also, what's the best way to present this on a portfolio site or even as a pinned video on my own channel? Any advice on structure, length, or even how to get feedback would be awesome!

How do you balance creative video work with staying physically active?

Hey everyone, I know this is off-topic but I've been struggling with something lately. I spend most of my day editing videos, writing scripts, and managing my channel. It's awesome, but I've noticed my energy levels are dropping and I'm not as creative as I used to be. I sit for 10+ hours a day, and I barely move. I'm worried about my health long-term, but I also don't want to sacrifice my work output. I've tried setting reminders to stand up, but I usually ignore them. Has anyone found a routine that actually works? I'm thinking of buying a standing desk or maybe trying some quick workouts between renders. What do you guys do to stay active without killing your productivity? Any tips would be amazing!

Best OBS Settings for 1080p60 Live Streaming on Twitch with a 10 Mbps Upload?

Hey everyone! I've been streaming for about six months now, mostly playing FPS games like Valorant and Apex Legends. My PC is solid (RTX 3070, Ryzen 7 5800X, 32GB RAM), but my upload speed is capped at 10 Mbps (thanks, rural internet). I've been using OBS Studio with NVENC (new) at 1080p60, but I keep getting dropped frames and occasional stuttering in the stream, even though my in-game FPS is fine. I've tried various bitrates from 4500 to 6000, but nothing seems perfect. I've read that Twitch recommends 6000 kbps for 1080p60, but with my upload, I'm worried about stability. Should I drop to 720p60 or 1080p30? Also, what encoder settings (preset, look-ahead, psycho-visual tuning) would you recommend to get the best quality without overwhelming my upload? Any tips on buffer size or keyframe interval would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Reels reach tanked after 3 weeks – algorithm shadowban or just bad luck?

Hey everyone! I run a small cooking channel (@shortsflow53) and have been posting daily Reels for about 3 months. Everything was going great – my first 2 months averaged 50k-200k views per reel, with a few hitting 1M+. But for the past 3 weeks, my views have dropped to 2k-5k max. I haven't changed my content style, posting time, or hashtag strategy. I'm using a Sony ZV-1, editing in Premiere Pro (vertical 1080x1920, 30fps), and adding trending audio from the Reels library. I've checked my account status – no violations, no strikes. Is this a shadowban? Or is the algorithm just testing me? I'm really discouraged and considering quitting. Any advice would be super appreciated!

Best budget-friendly softbox setup for interview videos (under $200 total)?

Hey everyone! I'm starting to film more interview-style videos for my YouTube channel, but my current lighting setup (just a single desk lamp and a ring light) is making my footage look flat and unprofessional. I want to invest in a proper softbox kit, but I'm on a tight budget—ideally under $200 for everything including stands and bulbs. I've seen a lot of options on Amazon, but I'm overwhelmed by the choices. What would you recommend for a two-point or three-point lighting setup that won't break the bank? I'm filming in a small room with a low ceiling, so I need something compact and easy to set up. Also, do I need to worry about color temperature matching if I mix different brands? Any advice on placement for a nice key/fill look would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

How to Build a Killer Editing Portfolio That Actually Gets You Clients?

<img src="/uploads/video-editing-portfolio-workspace-1785591439.jpg" alt="Video editor&#039;s desk with portfolio website and editing software on screens" class="thread-seo-image" style="width:100%; max-height:450px; object-fit:cover; border-radius:var(--radius-md); margin-bottom:20px;"> Hey everyone! I've been editing for about two years now—mostly short-form content for small creators and a few local businesses. I've finally decided to take freelancing seriously, but I'm stuck on one thing: my portfolio. Right now it's just a random Vimeo link with a few projects thrown together, and I feel like it doesn't really sell my skills. I've watched a ton of YouTube videos, but most advice feels generic ("just show your best work!"). I'm looking for concrete advice: What's the best platform to host a portfolio in 2026? Should I include full videos or just showreels? How many projects is the sweet spot? And for someone who does both long-form and vertical content, should I separate them? Also, if anyone has experience with pricing or using portfolios to land clients on platforms like Upwork or even Instagram, I'd love to hear how you structure your presentation. Thanks in advance!

After Effects expressions for auto-scaling text to fit a dynamic lower third?

Hey everyone, I'm building a bunch of lower thirds for a client who wants them to auto-fit text that changes length. I'm using After Effects and I've tried using the 'Auto Size' feature in the Essential Graphics panel, but it only works if I manually adjust the box. I need an expression that makes the background bar and the text scale/width adapt automatically based on the text length, so I don't have to keyframe every time. I've seen some tutorials on using 'sourceRectAtTime()' but I'm not sure how to apply it to both a shape layer and the text layer without breaking the positioning. Also, I need to keep the text left-aligned and have the bar extend from left to right. Any help would be awesome!
