Best way to create realistic smoke/fog loops for music videos?

Hey everyone! I'm working on a music video for a local artist and the director wants these dreamy, slow-motion smoke/fog effects drifting through the frame. I've tried using stock footage of smoke, but it always looks too flat or doesn't blend well with the color grade. I'm thinking of generating my own loops in After Effects or using a 3D tool like Houdini (but that seems overkill). What's the most efficient workflow to get realistic, volumetric-looking smoke that loops seamlessly? I'm on a 2023 MacBook Pro M2 Max with 32GB RAM, using After Effects 2026 and sometimes DaVinci Resolve for grading. I need something that doesn't take forever to render. Any plugins or techniques you'd recommend? Thanks!

Why does my talking-head video look flat? Need honest critique on lighting and color

Hey everyone, I've been making YouTube videos for about six months now, mostly talking-head style content about productivity and tech. I've upgraded my camera to a Sony ZV-E10 and I'm shooting with a 35mm f/1.8 lens, but my videos still look flat and dull compared to the big creators in my niche. I'm using a single softbox key light at 45 degrees, a cheap LED panel as fill, and I'm shooting in a small room with white walls. I grade in DaVinci Resolve using a standard Rec.709 LUT, but I feel like my skin tones are a bit off and the overall image lacks depth. I've attached a screenshot of my setup and a frame from my latest video. Can you guys give me an honest critique? Is it my lighting, my color grading, or something else? I'm trying to achieve that clean, cinematic look that keeps viewers engaged, but I'm not sure what I'm missing. Any advice would be super helpful!

How to Build a Portfolio That Actually Gets You Hired as a Video Editor?

Hey everyone! I've been editing for about 3 years now, mostly doing freelance work for small clients and YouTube creators. I've finally decided to take my career seriously and start applying for full-time positions at production companies and marketing agencies. The problem? My portfolio is just a messy Google Drive folder with random clips and no structure. I know I have the skills, but I'm not sure how to present my work in a way that stands out. I've watched countless YouTube videos and read articles, but I keep getting conflicting advice. Some say to keep it under 2 minutes, others say show full projects. Some say to include personal projects, others say only paid work. I'm feeling stuck and overwhelmed. What has actually worked for you in getting hired? Any specific platforms or formats you recommend? I'd love to hear real experiences from editors who've successfully landed jobs or clients through their portfolio.

How to Pitch Brands for Sponsorships When You Only Have 5K Subscribers?

Hey everyone! I’ve been creating Shorts for about a year now and I’ve finally hit 5K subscribers. I’m starting to get a few small brand inquiries here and there, but most of them are offering free products instead of cash. I want to start pitching bigger brands myself, but I’m not sure how to approach it. Do brands even consider creators with under 10K subs? I’ve got a solid niche (tech gadgets and quick reviews) and my Shorts average around 50K views, with a few hitting 200K+. My engagement rate is around 8%, which I think is decent. I’ve never done a sponsored post before, so I’m also worried about sounding unprofessional or asking for too much. What should my media kit include, and how do I calculate a fair rate? Any tips on the actual pitch email structure would be super helpful!

After Effects 3D Camera Tracker Drift: Any Fix for Long Takes?

Hey everyone! I've been using the 3D Camera Tracker in After Effects for a while now, but I keep running into a frustrating issue on longer shots. When I track a clip that's more than, say, 10 seconds, the track points start to drift noticeably, especially towards the end of the shot. The camera solve seems fine in the first few seconds, but by the end, my text or solid layers are floating off the surface they're supposed to be locked to. I've tried cleaning up the track points, adjusting the 'Advanced' settings like 'Solve Method' and 'Detailed Analysis', but nothing seems to fully fix it. I'm working with 4K footage from a Sony A7S III, shooting handheld with a 24mm lens. I know handheld and wide lenses are tricky, but I've seen tutorials where people get solid tracks on similar footage. What's the best workflow to minimize drift on longer handheld shots? Should I be doing a manual track for the foreground and then using the 3D track for parallax? Or is there a specific setting I'm missing? Any advice would be massively appreciated!

Struggling to write a compelling hook for my documentary-style YouTube video – any tips?

<img src="/uploads/documentary-hook-scriptwriting-tips-1785649398.jpg" alt="Scriptwriting for documentary video with editing timeline in background" class="thread-seo-image" style="width:100%; max-height:450px; object-fit:cover; border-radius:var(--radius-md); margin-bottom:20px;"> Hey everyone! I'm working on a documentary-style video for my channel, and I'm really struggling with the opening hook. I've spent hours on the script, but the first 30 seconds feel flat and I'm worried viewers will click away. I know the importance of a strong hook, but I can't seem to craft one that's both informative and emotionally engaging without giving too much away. Does anyone have specific techniques or frameworks for writing a hook that grabs attention in the first few seconds? I'd love to hear how you approach this in your own scripts, especially for narrative-driven content. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Best way to integrate affiliate links into video descriptions without hurting CTR?

<img src="/uploads/youtube-description-affiliate-links-layout-1785618196.jpg" alt="YouTube description editor with organized affiliate links and timestamps on a desktop monitor in a bright studio" class="thread-seo-image" style="width:100%; max-height:450px; object-fit:cover; border-radius:var(--radius-md); margin-bottom:20px;"> Hey everyone! I've been doing YouTube for about a year now, mostly tech reviews and how-to videos. I finally got approved for Amazon Associates and a couple of other affiliate programs (like some software tools I actually use). I've started adding affiliate links to my video descriptions, but I'm worried that the way I'm formatting them might be making my descriptions look cluttered or spammy, which could hurt my click-through rate (CTR) on the video itself. Right now, I just paste a big list of links at the top of the description, before my standard 'what's in this video' timestamps. I've noticed my average view duration has dipped slightly on those videos, and I'm not sure if it's because people are bouncing after clicking a link or because the description looks too salesy. What's the best practice for placing affiliate links in descriptions? Should I use a link shortener, put them in a separate section lower down, or maybe use a tool like Linktree? Also, any tips on how to disclose them properly without making it sound like a disclaimer wall of text? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Best AI tools for auto-generating YouTube Shorts from long videos?

Hey everyone! I've been creating long-form content for a while now, but I'm struggling to keep up with the demand for Shorts. I know repurposing is the way to go, but manually cutting clips, adding captions, and finding the best moments takes forever. I'm looking for the best AI tools that can automatically generate YouTube Shorts from my long videos. I've heard about tools like OpusClip, Klap, and Vizard, but I'm not sure which one is the best in 2026. My main needs are: automatic highlight detection, good captioning (with emojis and keywords), and the ability to edit the clips easily before posting. Also, I'd love to know if any of these tools can directly upload to YouTube Studio or schedule posts. What are your experiences and recommendations? Thanks in advance!

How to Structure a Cross-Niche Collab Video Without Losing Either Audience?

<img src="/uploads/cross-niche-collab-planning-tech-travel-1785158844.jpg" alt="Two creators planning a cross-niche collaboration video about digital nomad tech gear in a bright co-working space" class="thread-seo-image" style="width:100%; max-height:450px; object-fit:cover; border-radius:var(--radius-md); margin-bottom:20px;"> Hey everyone, I'm a travel vlogger with about 45k subs and I'm planning a collab with a friend who runs a tech review channel (30k subs). We want to create a video that appeals to both audiences without alienating either side. Our idea is to do a 'Digital Nomad Tech Setup' review where I show my travel gear and he critiques it from a tech perspective, but we're worried the travel audience might get bored with too much specs talk, and the tech audience might skip the scenic B-roll. Has anyone here successfully pulled off a cross-niche collab? What's the best way to structure the script, thumbnail, and title so both communities feel included? I'm thinking of using a split-screen format or alternating segments, but I'm open to any proven strategies. Also, any tips on cross-promotion in the description and end screens?
